About Old Split

The Gradska vijećnica (Town Hall) stands on Narodni trg in Split's Old Town and forms a protected ensemble together with the Chapel of St. Lawrence. The building was constructed and expanded between the 14th and 19th centuries and originally served as the seat of the city administration. Although it still preserves parts of its Romanesque-Gothic appearance, it underwent extensive restoration in the Neo-Gothic style after neighboring palaces were destroyed in the 19th century. After its time as an Ethnographic Museum, the historic building now hosts changing exhibitions and offers visitors a glimpse into the city's medieval history.
